style staples 01: bras

My very first job ever was at a lingerie store, so lingerie holds a special place in my heart. From that job, I learned that a lot of people don’t even have the essential basic underwear and bras! I think this is because we all grew up going to Victoria’s Secret and buying everything that we thought just looked cute, not caring if it fit right or not. Plus, most chain bra stores don’t size you correctly. I could honestly do a whole post about finding the right bra for you, so if you want that let me know!

You NEED to invest in your bras. Don’t just grab one from Target (no shade to tarjay) - get a nice one and hand wash it every so often and ONLY air dry. Trust me, if you do this your bras will last for YEARS.

Here’s what you definitely need:

  • nude everyday bra

    • Ok, if you own one bra it should be this. I have a Chantelle Balconnette bra that I wear with most of my outfits and I’ve owned it since 2015. Take your time and find the right one for you. Try out different styles (plunge, demi, push up, t-shirt, etc.) and different brands to find the best one that you’d feel comfortable wearing everyday. This can take some time, but trust me it’s worth it.

    • Why nude? One of the biggest mistakes people make is wearing a white bra under a white shirt. You should get a bra as close to your skin color as possible so you can wear it with literately anything.

    • Brands I recommend: Chantelle, Simone Perele, Aerie, Wacoal, Third Love, Natori

  • strapless bra

    • I personally lost the strapless bra in my collection and it’s one that I do miss come summer. Strapless bras can be tough, but as long as you have a good fit, it will be supportive and a great addition to your bra collection.

    • Look at the brands I mentioned above for a good strapless bra!

  • unlined bra

  • nipple covers

  • boob tape

    • So, this is new to me but it’s an actual game changer. Sometimes you want to wear a plunging neckline or an outfit that you don’t have a bra for - in those cases, boob tape to the rescue!

    • Brands I recommend: Booby Tape, B-Six
